Samana is located in the north eastern part of the Dominican Republic. The area is known for its stunning natural beauty and mountains of which it is almost entirely formed. Beaches: Samana has several beautiful beaches to visit. On the north side of the peninsula: Playa Bonita, Cozon, Las Terrenas, El Portillo, and Playa Popy. Once you are in Las Galeras, there are daily small boat ferries to Playa Rincon beach, a spectacular 2 km bay. On the south side of the peninsula: Playa Galeras and Cayo Levantado.
Samana City: The town of Samana is a scenic and peaceful port. Samana is graced by a newly renovated Malecon ( seaside walking promenade ) 2 kilometers in length which surrounds the gorgeous Bay of Samana and the Marina filled with sailboats and fishing boats.​
Las Terrenas: Las Tarrenas features many small shops, supermarkets and delicious pastry shops reflecting the European influence of the area.

El Limon Waterfall: Over 150 feet tall, El Limón Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in the Dominican Republic. Spend some time swimming in the refreshing waters of the waterfall’s large pool or swim into the falls and explore the caves underneath.​
Whale-watching: Samana has some of the best whale-watching in the world. Every year, excursions depart to catch the beautiful humpback whales as they migrate from the North Atlantic to Samana Bay from January 15 to March 15.

Los Haitises National Park: Parque National Los Haitises is a vast area of mangrove swamps, tropical forest, limestone caves and rugged hillsides on the south side of Samaná Bay. It provides habitat for a wide variety of birds and marine life. Day excursions can be booked from most hotels.

Mountain biking, hiking, horse riding: There are few destinations as great as Samana for these ecotourism sports. Be on the lookout at your hotel for tour operators that offer these activities.

Caving: Samana has many caves for exploring. Check out excursions offering sightings of petroglyphs and pictograms from the days of the Indian settlers.​
Rock climbing: Rock climbing enthusiasts should look into the Playa Fronton excursions. Playa Fronton is located at the tip of Las Galeras. It is a spectacular beach, even if you are not into climbing.​
Golf: At the present time there is no golf course open in Samana. Those interested in golf, can travel to the Playa Grande golf course, about an hour and a half distance from Samana.​
Scuba: Samana features the best adventure diving of the north coast of the Dominican Republic. This rocky coastline with high cliffs leads to an exciting underwater world of sheer drop-offs and pinnacles that rise from 165 feet to within 15 feet of the surface. Underwater visibility in this region can range from 100 to 150 feet. During the winter season (January 15-March 15), visiting humpback whales can be seen and heard underwater as they migrate toward Silver Shoals. Dive shops take their divers to Punta Tibisi (Cabo Cabron) for snorkeling and swimming. For advanced divers, there is the site known as The Tower. This underwater pinnacle rises from 165 feet. Down below at 40 feet, views are serene and majestic.
Island of Cayo Levantado
Cayo Levantado is situated like a sentinel guarding the bay of Samana. This island is the highest part of the coral reef barrier which protects the bay from the powerful Atlantic waves. Cayo Levantado (Also known as Bacardi Island) is one of the favorite places for visitors because of its tropical Caribbean island ambience. Wooded areas and coconut palms border beautiful white sand beaches, which make it an idyllic place for visitors.
